PHANTASY STAR III: GENERATIONS OF DOOM Because of the unique feature of this game to choose one of four different storylines, I am listing the quests for each of the seven possible "main characters" separately. The showdown in the city of Lashute is listed at the end of this walkthru. PROLOGUE ========= Legends of the past shape our lives, and those of our children. One such legend is of a bitter world-sweeping war that almost wiped out the world. The names of Orakio and Laya stir up intense feelings of love, hatred, and fear even now, 1000 years after their conflict. The warrior Orakio and his army of cyborgs fought to prevent the sorceress Laya and her great horde of monsters from gaining dominion over the world of Landen. A mighty, final battle ensued in which all combatants were killed, although the bodies of Orakio and Laya were never found. The survivors of the war were left in a torn world of mutated creatures and warring pockets of men. Passageways between the Orakian and Layan worlds were sealed. People soon forgot that there were other worlds besides Landen. Two months ago, a young woman washed up on the shore near Landen. The girl remembered nothing of her life prior to waking up on the beach. The noble prince Rhys nursed the woman, Maia, back to health, and they soon fell in love, starting a chain of events that would change the worlds forever.... GENERATION I: RHYS =================== You find yourself at the entrance to the town of Landen. Walk around town to learn its layout, and speak to all the townspeople. Walk into the shops and houses to speak to the people in them. Many people can be found on the second floors, so go upstairs in any house or shop you go into. The people are all excited about your upcoming wedding to Maia, and nudge you toward the castle gate. In the castle, speak to the guards, who will urge you to hurry and escort your bride to the throne room. Maia is waiting in your chamber. When you enter it, the following sequences proceed automatically: Maia tells you that she's honored you want to marry her, and maybe someday she will regain her memory. You lead Maia into the throne room, and stand before the king. The wedding begins, and you start the exchange of vows. With a cry of "Filthy Orakians! Maia will not be yours!" a dragon swoops down into the castle and carries Maia away. Rhys becomes furious and shouts that he will raise the army to bring Maia back from the Layans. But cooler heads prevail: Rhys' father, the king of Landen, says that Layans have not been seen in centuries, and starting a war is not rational. He instructs the guards to place his son into the dungeon for a while to cool off. You regain control of your character after the dungeon gate lowers behind you. Open the three chests you find. They contain 300 mesetas, a Knife and a Monitor. The Monitor will show you (via a white dot) what world you are in, and your position in it. Go back to the gate and you will find a girl standing there. Push button A to speak to her, and another sequence will proceed automatically: The girl will tell you that her name is Lena and she will help you escape. The gate raises, and Lena leads you down a passage. She tells you to arm yourself well and find Maia. After a second's pause, Rhys goes down the passage, up a set of stairs, and out the back door of a shop. You cannot reenter this back door. You are now free to walk around town once again. Pertinent info you'll now get from the townspeople includes the mention of a Sapphire that lets you enter an eastern cave; this gem was stolen by a monster (or was it by a man?) who went south to an island. You'll be told that a port town named Yaata lies to the south, and advised to remember Orakio's Law: "Kill no living thing." Go to the weapon shop. You can attack twice per round if you buy a second Knife and hold one in each hand, but you're actually better off selling your Knife and buying a Short Sword. The sword hits harder than two Knives put together, and has a good defense bonus, even better than Hunting Armor. Save the game at the inn. You regain all hit points and technique points here when you check in. Checking in costs 5 meseta for each member in the party; you do not have to save your game when you check in, but since it costs nothing extra, you should. Go to Yaata. You'll meet an old man there who has a ship, but he is very superstitious and believes it is bad luck to sail without a cyborg aboard. You will also be told about a town called Ilan. Go there and talk to the people. You'll learn something really important: a Layan woman was spotted near a lake to the northeast! Find this lake; use the Monitor as a guide. Talk to the woman. She'll tell you that she is not a Layan; she is a combat cyborg, designation Mieu type. She's been waiting 1000 years at the lake for a descendant of Orakio. Mieu may not be commanded by anyone else. Return to Ilan. Ignore the people who act suspicious of Mieu, but pay close attention to the man who now says he saw a dragon take a woman into a cave to the east. Maia? Entering the cave will let you find out, but to enter, you have to secure the Sapphire. Return to Yaata. Buy a second Claw in the weapon shop for Mieu. Then talk to the old man. He will welcome you aboard, and mention that someone has holed up in the island cave with a stolen gem. You can now board the ship outside of town. As you sail, the man will point out a sunken palace in the water. An archaic legend claims that the evil Dark Force is trapped there by the Sword of Orakio. Don't enter the cave yet. Hunt some monsters on the island surface to get experience and money. When both Rhys and Mieu rise a few levels, and you can afford to purchase some healing medicines and an Escapipe, you'll be ready to enter the cave. While you're on the island, the ship will stay on one of its shores, so you can travel back and forth between Yaata and the island as often as you want. Use Antidotes only when you run low on hit points; some of the monsters in the cave spit poison repeatedly, and you cannot be healed by any means while poison is in your system. So if you don't need to heal, don't cure poison. Poison will do no damage by itself, and you might be re-poisoned almost immediately. Find as many of the treasure chests in the cave as you can. You will find useful items, like extra medicine and a Shield. Your goal is to find a man at the rear of the cave. He tells you that his name is Lyle, and he has the Sapphire. He will politely give it to you, and then take his leave. If you like, you can "equip" the Sapphire, placing it in your buckle. Your stats will not be affected if you do this. When you get the gem, return to Yaata and save the game. If you found the Shield, _hang on to it!_ Replace used medicine and buy Rhys some Hunting Armor and a Hunting Helm. Go hunting to work yourself up a few more levels so you'll be ready to explore the eastern cave. Map the dungeon, and open any chests you find. If you do not have to make a retreat, you should find a stairway up to someplace beyond the cave. You will emerge in another world, frozen in ice and snow. There is a town to the east. Go over and talk to the people. The town is called Rysel; its people are starving because the sudden winter has frozen the sea, and they can no longer fish. Vital clues include the mention of a tower in Aridia that is supposed to hold the solution; and to the south, a hidden gateway lies among ruins of Orakio's fortresses. Being the noble prince you are, you can't ignore them when they beg you for help. Talk to the woman minstrel who you'll find at the right side of town. She will tell you her favorite legend of the people fleeing a great evil known as Dark Force. The legend also claims that all people are descended from a race that sailed among the stars. Hunt Buzzgulls in the vicinity of the town, and maybe a few Lashgulls down to the south. Get enough money to buy Mieu two Hunting Claws, Force Boots, and a Hunting Vest. If you still have trouble with the monsters, buy Rhys Steel Armor. When you feel ready, go to the ruins southeast of the bridge. South of one ruined fort is the gate entrance. Take an Escapipe when you go there in case you have to retreat. Try to find the treasure chests in the gateway, since they hold extra medicine. If you are strong enough to defeat the monsters, you will find the exit and emerge in Aridia. Aridia is a desert planet, so common sense will remind you that a village would be located near water. Use the Monitor as a guide to reach the town at the north end of the river. The town is called Hazatak. There are several cyborgs in the streets. Talk to them for information. You'll learn that the weather control system needs adjusting. To fix it, find Wren in a western cave. One of them will tell you that a cyborg that has gone crazy wanders the desert north of the town. Hunt monsters near the town. Acquire enough money to buy Rhys a standard Sword. Neither Rhys nor Mieu can use a Hunting Shot, but buy one anyway if you have the money (if you don't have it, get it). If you walk north, you will find a cyborg of Mieu's design. Her name is Miun; if you talk to her, she will ask you where Orakio is. She says that it's been 1000 years, but she'd know his black sword anywhere. When you have the equipment mentioned above and some more medicine, go to the west and you will find two caves. Enter the one on the right. There are a couple of chests in the cave with a spare Dimate and an Escapipe. In a large chamber in the southwest part of the cave, you will find a cyborg. His name is Wren; he is a combat and technical systems specialist, and he is programmed to serve you. Wren has no items except an Escapipe. Give him the Hunting Shot as soon as you find him. Wren will now be able to fight. You can either walk out of the cave, or use Wren's Escapipe. Then return to town. If you gained enough meseta in the cave, buy Wren a Head Gear and a Protector. If you didn't, save the game and go hunting to get the money you need. When you have the meseta, buy the armor and more supplies. Save the game again, and find the weather control tower. It's located southeast of Hazatak. In the tower, go north, then walk as far east as you can. You'll find Lyle in the passageway. Lyle will ask for your help in thawing out his world. People are dying of cold and hunger, and he needs your help to save them. The weather controls are nearby; Wren can repair them easily. Lyle offers to join your party to help you out. You will probably be very suspicious of Lyle because he can use techniques and carries a Staff -- these make him smack of Layan origin. Worry about it later; Lyle's desire to save Aquatica is genuine. If you have the Shield from the cave where you first met Lyle, give it to him. Lyle only needs one hand to use his Staff, so he can hold the Shield in the other. Go a little further to the east and then south. You'll find the weather controls. Push button A, and Wren will fix them. Lyle will say he is in your debt, and invite you to come with him to see his land. Return to Hazatak, and buy a Cape and Bandanna for Lyle if you have enough money. Then hurry back to Rysel. You will be welcomed as heroes, and a man there will offer you the use of his ship. You'll also learn that a dragon flew east with a woman, and that some people across the sea worship Laya. Buy Lyle a Hunting Staff, then sail across the sea with the ship. Go into the southern town. The town, which is named Agoe, battles Shusoran, Laya's land. The castle folk will tell you that they are no match for the forces of Shusoran, and worry that they will be crushed if Shusoran attacks. The townspeople will tell you of a story that monsters are found in Shusoran's fountains, and a young woman has been taken to Shusoran's fortified castle. Buy a Steel Gear for Wren and a Steel Vest for Mieu. Then go to the town to the north of Agoe. Right away, you'll know something is amiss. The musical tune has a sinister undertone, and no people are in the streets. You will find a couple of people upstairs in houses, and talking to them will let you know that you're walking in Layan territory. One of the people, if you check the right house, will tell you that a sand bar connects the island to Cille during low tide, but the bar will only rise from the water if the moon returns. It is imperative that you get Wren a Ceramic Shot. Get the money to buy it as soon as possible. Then walk around the fountain. When you stand in the right spot below it, you will find a secret door to a dungeon. You'll find strong nasties inside so stay close to the exit until you acquire enough money to get a Hunting Ribbon and two Steel Claws for Mieu. If you need it, buy Wren a Steel Protector. Leave and reenter the dungeon as many times as needed to learn the layout and build up enough strength to fight off enemy attacks. You will eventually emerge in a room of the Shusoran castle with a passage leading to the throne room. As you travel down the passage, you spot a girl near a back exit from the throne room. Continue going down the passage; suddenly, Rhys will realize that the girl isn't Maia, but Lena. Rhys will ask Lyle how she got here, and Lyle will say he found her. When Rhys asks Lyle to help him take her out of the castle, Lyle will pull a shocker. He will tell Rhys that if he wants Lena back, he should fight for her. Lyle then says he has to leave your group, and he'll explain later, if things work out. A guard now appears, blocking retreat back down the passage, so go forward into the throne room, where Lyle has positioned himself in front of Lena. When you speak to him, Lyle says that it is time to see you really fight. Rhys must now engage Lyle in single combat. Lyle has more hit points than Rhys, and his Zan technique is pretty strong, so you might have to use one Dimate in the battle in order to beat him. When you beat Lyle, he will say that you are tougher than he thought, and someone wants to speak with you. Lyle will rejoin your group, and let you talk to Lena. Lena will tell you that you have come a long way since you last met, and before rescuing Maia, you'll have to backtrack. She must go to Aridia and adjust the satellite control system. This will bring the moon back to its proper position so the sand bar will rise from the water. Doing this will require her Moonstone and Lyle's Moon Tear. Everybody will regain all hit points and technique points after Lena joins your party. The castle gate will now be raised so you can reenter town. You won't encounter any more enemies. Guards will be standing near the gate and if you speak to them, one of them will tell you to be grateful that you are with Prince Lyle. That's right: _Prince_ Lyle, the ruler of Shusoran! When you leave the castle, you'll now find several people walking around. One of them will recall a legend that the Moonstone and Moon Tear belong in a tower in Aridia. It sounds like the tower with the weather control system also contains the satellite control system. Buy Lena a Steel Chest, and either a Ceramic Needler or a Steel Knife. Now go back to Aridia and buy her a Steel Emel in Hazatak. One of the cyborgs in Hazatak will say that Orakio once took the Moonstone and Moon Tear out of the Satellite control device, and this caused the moons to drift apart. The control panel is on the second floor of the weather control tower. Go to the tower and find the control panel for the moons. Push button A, and the stones will be put back into the panel, returning the two moons to their proper positions. Immediately exit the tower when this is done, and return to Shusoran. In Shusoran, buy Lyle a Steel Staff, and save the game. Use the rear exit of the castle's throne room, and walk right. You will exit the castle, and be on the north side of the town. It shouldn't be too hard to see just where on the coastline to stand. When you stand on the right spot, the sand bar will rise. Cross it and enter the town of Cille. Talk to the people. A man will tell you that "the people of Cille are insulted that you want the hand of Maia, our fair princess." So this is why that dragon snatched her away from you! Maia is the princess of Cille, an obviously Layan town! A Cille woman says you're lucky that Laya's law forbids killing; "Kill no living thing" was Laya's last message to her people. This is the exact same law Orakians live by! Could the Layan and the Orakian people have more in common than they think? The castle gate is closed, but there are eight fountains in front of the gate. The third one from the left is the only one that leads to the Cille castle. It's a long hike, so bring a supply of Dimate and Antidote. Also, before you enter, redistribute Lyle's technique strength in the Technique Distribution shop to maximize his Foi technique to full power. Then power up Wren's Tsu technique to maximum. Combining their techniques will help you against some of the stronger foes in the dungeon, like the Blotter. When you emerge in the Cille castle, you'll have to take a long route all the way around the castle in order to enter. Then you must go to the throne room where the King of Cille stands protectively in front of his daughter Maia. Walk up to the King, but before talking to him, heal everybody in the party. The King tells you that he'll show you how he handles Orakian spies in his country. Six Dryad monsters will spring up to help King Cille fight you. The King's Zan technique can hit everyone for 20 damage or so. In the first round, if Lena has a Ceramic Needler, have her attack the Dryads on the right. Use Lyle's Foi technique on the King for the _first round only._ Once the six Dryads are all taken out, finish off the King hand-to-hand. When you defeat the King, he will say that he yields to your strength, and perhaps his nephew Lyle was correct about you. Lyle doesn't give you any explanations of his actions, such as why he helped you to fight and defeat his own uncle; he simply did what he did "for personal reasons." You have won the right to marry Maia, but now Lena has fallen in love with you, and secretly hopes that you will marry her. King Cille will explain to you that you will become heir to his throne if you marry Maia; if on the other hand, you choose to marry Lena, you will remain king of Landen, and become king of Lena's homeland, Satera. If you choose to marry MAIA, you will begin Generation II with AYN. If you choose to marry LENA, you will begin Generation II with NIAL. Don't worry about which of Rhys' two sons is stronger. Ayn, having Layan blood, can use techniques, including healing techniques; Nial is pureblood Orakian and can't use any techniques. However, Nial has more starting hit points, and seems to gain more hit points faster. Both Ayn and Nial will begin their quests with a Steel Helm, Steel Sword, Ceramic Armor and Force Boots. They can both fight well. GENERATION II: AYN =================== Rhys and Maia have ruled the peaceful land of Cille justly for many years. Prince Ayn grew into a man, watching his land flourish. Now, evil stalks the worlds once more. A guard walks into the throne room of the Cille castle and announces that Cille is under attack by cyborgs. The cyborgs have overpowered and killed all the Layan monsters sent to defend against them. Shusoran is also under attack; Lyle, now king of Shusoran, begs for help. Rhys asks Ayn to venture forth on a vital quest. Rhys has heard legends of a place called Satellite; a place of true peace. He feels a sanctuary may be needed shortly. Ayn's quest is to find Satellite. Rhys sends Mieu and Wren with Ayn to help him. Venture out and walk around the isle. You will be attacked by cyborgs. You should note that all enemy encounters in this quest are with cyborgs. Build up levels and money so that you will be prepared for the task ahead. Your land is in trouble, but they can hold out infinitely until you perform a specific action. Here's a special little trick, which you can benefit from greatly in the third generation, if you have enough patience. Acquire enough money to buy two vials of Star Mist in the Cille Supply Shop. Have Mieu carry one, and Wren carry one. Save the game as soon as you have the Star Mist. But, most important: _never use them, no matter what, not even if it means the entire party will die!!_ When you begin the third generation, Mieu and Wren will still have everything that they were carrying at the end of this quest, including the Star Mist. When you're ready, cross the sand bar and enter Shusoran. In the castle's throne room, you will learn that Lyle has lost one of his eyes in a recent battle. Lyle will say that he wants to go with you, but of course, as the king, he has a responsibility to his people. You will meet Lyle's daughter Thea as well. Remember her; you will meet again. The people in the castle are worried about the cyborgs, but they feel sure that Lyle's strength will eventually see them through. But why does one of the townspeople refer to Lyle as the "dragon-knight?" Enter neighboring Agoe if you desire. You will be welcomed, since Agoe no longer battles Shusoran and has lived in peace for many years. Nobody knows who is leading the cyborgs, but some of the townspeople feel that neither Rhys nor Lyle can defend their lands for much longer. When you cross the sea and enter the town of Rysel, you learn from one of the townspeople that a messenger from your land has been in the town. Cille and Shusoran are under attack again, and they need you desperately! You hurry back to Shusoran, and find it deserted. All of the shops are now empty. In fact, when you walk through the castle, you will once again have hostile encounters. When you reach Cille, there will be only one person left. He'll tell you that the cyborgs were too powerful to be resisted this time. Everyone fled to Aridia, except him. If you visit Agoe at this point, the townsfolk will say that Cille and Shusoran are in flames, but some of the population escaped. One woman who told you that Satellite was only a legend will now be sympathetic, and say she hopes you find it. If you enter the west cave to travel to Landen, you'll find a guard there, blocking your passage. He'll tell you that Lune prohibits entry. You don't know who Lune is, nor do you have the time to find out. Go to Aridia and speak to the cyborgs in Hazatak. You will learn that your family fled to a cave far to the west of town. They have the Twins' Ruby, the key to Landen. This is important because, as the cyborgs will mention, you can reach Satellite from a world to the east, but you have to have the Power Topaz. This gem is the property of Lena's daughter, who is said to be living in Landen. Go to the cave where you found Wren. A guard is near the entry passage; he will say that your family awaits you inside. In the area where you first met Wren, you will find Rhys, Maia, Lyle, two guards, a woman and a boy. They are among the survivors of Cille and Shusoran. You'll also learn some dreadful news. Lyle was wounded, and may not live long. His daughter Thea was kidnaped and taken to a world to the east. Lyle and Rhys will entreat you to rescue her. Lyle will give you the Dragon's Tear, a gem you need to enter this world. Return to Hazatak. Buy some medicine and an Escapipe. Save the game, then head directly east until you reach a cave. A Force Ribbon, Laser Shot, and Ceramic Helm are in chests here, if you're willing to look for them. When you emerge in Draconia, you will find a town a short distance to the southeast. Only one villager can be found; he's in the equipment shop. He will tell you that Techna, far to the southeast, knows about Satellite. Don't buy any items in this town yet. Save the game and go east. Continue east and then north. You will walk up a pincer-shaped peninsula, cross a bridge, and head north again, until you reach another town. The town is called Endora. Here, you will learn that to reach Techna, you must travel down Cape Dragon Spine to the east, and cross the sea. You will also learn that in the town of Lensol far to the southwest, a princess is being held against her will deep in the castle dungeon. A man in Endora says he tried to rescue the princess, but the monsters were too strong for him. He opened the gate for you, and asks you to save her. Buy a Laser Sword for Ayn, two Laser Claws for Mieu and a Ceramic Gear for Wren. If you have enough money after making these purchases, buy a Cannon for Wren. If not, buy him a Laconian Shot back in Lensol. In Lensol, buy a Ceramic Protector for Wren, plus a Ceramic Vest for Mieu and Force Armor for Ayn. Hunt cyborgs until you get the money if you need to. When you're properly equipped, you'll be ready to rescue Thea. Replace used medicine at the Supply Shop and enter the castle. In the west part of the castle is the stairs leading down to the dungeon. It's a very long walk to Thea's cell; the cyborgs don't intend to let you reach her. When you reach Thea, she will ask you to take her to her father right away. She has the Twins' Ruby on her. Exit the dungeon and buy Thea a Robe. Then return to Endora, and get her a pair of Laser Slicers. Don't bother buying a Royal Bandanna. It costs more money than you can spend. Keep Thea in the back of the party, and she should be fine. Thea starts out weak, but she will gain in levels and strength very quickly. Return to Hazatak in Aridia. Save the game at the inn, then see your family at the west cave. You will be hailed as heroes, and Lyle will tell you to use the Twins' Ruby to go to Landen. North of the cave where your family is hiding, you will find the cave to Landen. You will find a Force Sword, Force Claw, and Force Knife in chests if you look for them. When you reach the exit, you'll emerge in the south part of Landen. There won't be any townspeople around in Ilan or Yaata, so there's no need to enter the towns unless you need to check into the inn. The Ilan Weapon Shop sells Force Slicers, but these aren't sufficiently stronger than the Laser Slicers to warrant spending the money they cost. In Landen, get some more medicine if you need it, and save the game at the inn. The castle gate is down, but the Technique Distribution Shop is empty now, so you have access to the secret stairway leading down to the dungeon. There's extra medicine in the dungeon in chests if you're willing to make a short side-track now and then. At the end of the dungeon, near the stairway out, is a woman. Heal all damage you sustained before speaking to her. The woman will tell you that her name is Sari, and she is Lena's daughter. She is the ruler of Landen, and she has the Power Topaz. But Sari is not willing to simply hand over the gem. She'll tell you that if you want it, you must fight her for it. Sari packs a good wallop, and she has the assistance of three Commsat and three Zarachne cyborgs. Ayn and Mieu should attack the Zarachne; have Thea attack the Commsat. The cyborgs might get a few licks in but will go down quickly. Wren will be able to aim at Sari directly. Two shots should be enough to take her down. When you defeat Sari, she will agree to let you use the Power Topaz, but true to her bossy nature, she'll also insist that you let her come with you so she can keep an eye on it. Snatch the contents of the chest behind her, then exit the dungeon. You will be in Landen's castle, which is as empty as its streets. The gate will now be up so you can exit. Sari is extremely powerful. She has more hit points and a higher defense strength than anyone else. Give her the Force Knife you found; put it in her left hand while keeping her Steel Knife in her right hand. Rearrange the party lineup so she is second in the marching order (behind Ayn). Pass through Aridia en route back to Draconia. If you stop by your family one more time, Lyle will tell you to hurry to Cape Dragon Spine. Stop by Hazatak, Lensol, and/or Endora if you need to heal. When you get to the southern end of Cape Dragon Spine, you will encounter a very familiar-looking dragon. When you speak to him, he will tell you to climb on his back, and he will take you over to Techna. When the dragon lands near Techna, he will suddenly change into a man. It's Lyle. He will tell you that at last, he can reveal his long-held secret: Lyle has the power to transform into a dragon. He will confide in you that he's the one who stole Maia away from Rhys so long ago. Remember that Lyle and Maia are cousins; Lyle originally did not want his cousin marrying a 'filthy Orakian'. Lyle will ask you to please not tell Rhys, and to guard Thea well. He'll bid a last farewell to his daughter, and then he will die. You should save the game immediately in the Techna inn, since you will not be able to get off the island where the town is located. Hunt cyborgs as needed around the island so you can get the following equipment: a Force Vest and two Laconian Claws for Mieu, a Pulse Cannon for Wren, a Steel Robe for Thea, and a Laconian Knife for Sari (put it in her left hand; switch the Force Knife to her right). Sari will not need a Royal Chest; nor will Ayn require any equipment upgrade. The people in Techna will reveal the secret of Satellite: it's Azura, the blue moon. The castle will lead you to Satellite, but you are warned that only in tales is it a place of peace. In fact, the plague of cyborgs comes from Satellite! The cyborgs have taken over the town castle; you'll have enemy encounters there as well as in the dungeon under the castle. Bring some extra medicine when you enter. A spare Trimate is in a chest to the west of the dungeon's entrance. After you pick it up, find your way to a passage guarded by an old man. The man will tell you that you're the first of your people to visit them. Because you have the Power Topaz, you are worthy to know the truth and see the world as it really is. The man will step aside, letting you board the space jet. It will lift off into space, and a voice will tell you to see your true world: it is a giant spaceship built by your ancestors. (Remember the minstrel in Rysel your father met?) When you land on Satellite, you will see that it is also a spaceship, and it's guarded by the strongest cyborgs you will encounter. A Force Bandanna and Force Boots are in the dungeon if you're willing to go a little out of your way to pick them up. If you choose to get these, equip Thea with them. Then find your way onto the end of the middle path, to the right of the broken tiles. At the end of this path, you will find a cyborg that looks like Wren, except he has red hair. Heal all damage with medicine or healing techniques, then speak to the cyborg. The cyborg's name is Siren. He served Orakio long ago as his general, until Laya forced him onto the moon, then somehow moved it far away. He's been waiting 1000 years for revenge, which is at hand now that the moon has been brought back to its proper position. How will you tell daddy that his own actions enabled the destruction of his people? The three Mech cyborgs that will help Siren fight you can absorb a lot of damage. Have Ayn, Mieu and Sari all attack them. Thea's Slicers should be enough to take out the trio of Flash cyborgs next to the Mechs. Aim Wren's Pulse Cannon directly at Siren. Siren can cast Tsu techniques for 20 damage or so to everyone, or he can attack one person for 35 to 40. Use a Gires or two if you need it. It will take a good stiff fight to beat Siren, but with proper equipment, you should be okay. When Siren is defeated, he will tell you that you have won only a single battle, and he will return one day. Then he will escape. Ayn's quest will be completed. He has liberated Satellite, and his people are safe. They move to Azura to begin a new life there. King Rhys, now old, decrees that it will soon be time for Ayn to get married. Two women step forward to offer him their hand. If you choose to marry THEA, you will begin Generation III with SEAN. If you choose to marry SARI, you will begin Generation III with CRYS. Again, do not be concerned with which son is stronger. Crys cannot use any healing techniques like Sean can, nor does he gain as many technique points as Sean; however, he starts out with more hit points, and gains them more quickly. Both Crys and Sean will have a Laconian Helm, Sword and Armor, and Force Boots. Both of them fight well. GENERATION II: NIAL ==================== After finding Maia, Rhys realized he would actually be happiest if he were to marry Lena. Landen was thus united with Lena's homeland, Satera, across the river to the west. Lena soon gave birth to a son, who was named Nial. Peace settled across the land as Nial grew up, but trouble soon rose again. A messenger arrives from Satera. The messenger informs Queen Lena that an army of monsters has invaded Satera. Lena's father has been killed in the fighting, and help is needed badly. King Rhys calls Nial before him, and explains that Lena's land is becoming overrun. Rhys asks his son to journey westward and find out who is invading Satera. Mieu and Wren will go with him. The people in the castle say that the monsters came from the west, and they are led by someone named Lune. Lune's army has wiped out Satera, and Landen will be next if Lune isn't stopped. Go through the Landen castle dungeon, and pick up the medicines found there in chests. There will be no hostile encounters in the dungeon. Then speak with the girl near the town entrance. She'll tell you that the Twins' Ruby is the key to another world beyond a cave to the south. The townsfolk of Ilan are astonished that Lune is behind the attacks. They say he would be over 1000 years old if he was still alive. In fact, Lune used to be Laya's general, as you'll learn in Yaata. If you try to enter the cave leading to Aquatica, you'll learn that Lune, 1000 years old or not, is very much alive and well. His guards will block you from using the cave. They'll also block entry to the Layan Palace next to it, not that you know what it is for, anyway. Save the game in Yaata's inn. You may want to get a few extra Antidotes in the Supply Shop when you are ready to cross the bridge to Satera. You will encounter many poison-happy monsters there. A single guard roams Satera's castle. He will warn you to run before Lune's monsters find you; even now, they are pouring out of a cave to the south. Head all the way south until you find a cave entrance. The structure of the dungeon is not too difficult, though you may make a few wrong turns along the way. A Ceramic Ribbon, Laser Shot and Ceramic Shield can be found here in chests. When you emerge in the western world of Divisia, go southwest. If you come to a line of trees blocking further passage west, follow it south. You'll reach Divisia-town quickly. Divisia-town is divided in two. North Divisia is where you enter. To reach Southern Divisia, you must go through the castle and its dungeon. The people in North Divisia will tell you that Lune survived the past 1000 years by way of cryogenic sleep. They also tell you that Lune has a sister named Alair who was also in cryogenic sleep with him. Alair has recently been kidnaped by the Divisia castle guards and imprisoned in the dungeon! Lune must be quite angry about it! The castle guards will be very cocky and smug over their capture of Alair. The king, however, is not sure they are doing the right thing. Since Nial is Orakian, the castle folk will be hospitable to him. A stairway in the eastern part of the castle leads to a room with a Trimate in a chest. You can pick it up later. Go down the west stairway to get to Southern Divisia. Monsters infest the dungeon; perhaps trying to free Alair from her prison. If you feel like making a short side trip, there's an Antidote in a chest which you can pick up along the way. To reach Southern Divisia, you have to pass through Alair's prison. Alair blocks the rear gate, so you have to rescue her to get past. Alair will be very gracious toward you. She thanks you for rescuing her, and tells you that her brother has gone crazy after being exiled for 1000 years. He only wants to kill Orakians and cyborgs. Alair promises to hurry back to him, and try to convince him to stop. When you emerge in South Divisia, the townsfolk there will tell you that an army of rebels trains in a cave far to the west; they want to travel to Aridia, meaning they would have to go through a cave southeast of Landen. Buy a suit of Force Armor for Nial, a Ceramic Vest and one Ceramic Claw for Mieu, and a Laconian Shot and Ceramic Protector for Wren. Then stop by the inn and save the game. When you exit South Divisia, you will be on the south side, and able to go past the line of trees. If you walk south, you will find a large body of water not shown on the map or on the monitor. Find your way to the northwest part of Divisia, then follow the mountains south until you find the cave. There are no Escapipes for sale in either North or South Divisia-town, so take some extra medicine with you. Go up and left to get the Force Helm, then return to the fork and go right. You will pass a guard who will tell you that all enemies of Lune are welcome. When you find a chest with a Hunting Bandanna, head south, then west. When you enter the large chamber with the guards, the following sequences will proceed automatically: You will walk up to a tall man in a green outfit. He'll tell you that his name is Ryan, and he leads the rebel band. Then he will become hostile to you. Ryan knows that you've rescued Alair from imprisonment, causing him to believe that you were sent by Lune to infiltrate his group! Just when you think Ryan is about to attack you, Lune himself appears in the chamber! You are not told how he does it; in fact, Ryan turns on Lune and demands to know how he got here. Instead of giving him an answer, Lune orders him to abandon the revolt, or be slain. After Lune disappears, Ryan will turn back toward you, apologize, and join up with you to help defeat Lune. Ryan also tells you he has some parts for Wren in one of his chests. Open the chests. They contain a Laser Sword, Laser Claw, and Sub Parts. Now talk to the guards. They'll tell you that Lune's army is seeking something in Aridia; the rebels also want to go to Aridia, but don't know how. They think the Twins' Ruby, which Ryan is carrying, might get them there. They will also say that Orakio jailed Lune and Alair on the purple moon, Dahlia. They awoke because somebody brought the moon back. How will you tell your father that his actions brought about the attack on his wife's homeland? There's a Ceramic Gear in the rear of the cave. Grab it if you can. Return to South Divisia, and buy a Laconian Cape for Ryan. You must pass through the castle dungeon again to Northern Divisia. The townsfolk there, and the castle guards, have found out by now that Alair is free, and they are all terrified that Lune will soon trample them underfoot in retaliation. When you reach North Divisia, pick up some more medicine if you need it and go back through the cave and through Satera to the town of Yaata. Save the game there, and go to the cave in the southernmost part of Landen. You will find a Force Sword, Force Knife, and Force Claw in the passageway if you look for the chests holding them. You will emerge in Aridia, to the north and a little west of Hazatak. When you reach Hazatak, chat with the cyborgs. They will tell you about an amazing whirlpool to the southeast; you can explore it when you have the Sub Parts for Wren. Save the game in Hazatak, then go to the right side of the river. When you stand in the correct spot (right near the northern tip of the river), Wren will transform into a submersible. The Sub Parts need not be "equipped" or "used;" the transformation will be automatic as long as you have the Sub Parts and you stand in the right spot along the river. Wren will dive into the whirlpool and emerge in a hidden world beneath the world of Aridia. He will then change back to his normal form. You will not have any hostile encounters in this hidden world. Walk west, then south, and you will find a Layan Palace. You will have found many such Palaces on all the worlds you've been to, but so far, going into them has only gotten you a quick order to leave. This Palace has several priests near the entrance. Go over and speak with them. They will tell you that they've been protecting Laya for 1000 years. No, not _the_ Laya of ancient legend. As it turns out, the woman is Laya's sister; curiously, her name is also Laya. She has been in cryogenic sleep for the last 1000 years. Now, she is ready to learn the secret of Mystoke, in the world of Frigidia. The priests ask you to return to the desert with Laya and go southwest, where the portal to Frigidia is. Go to the blue square in the back of the temple. Laya will appear before you. She will say that she was very young when her sister fought Orakio, but she remembers Laya leaving with a knight who carried a black sword. She needs to know the truth, and asks you to take her with you. Now you know something really strange is happening. Orakio carried a black sword, as you learned from Miun. Laya and Orakio traveling together? You must find out the truth, meaning you must take Laya to Mystoke. Go back to where you emerged in this hidden world. Wren will change into a submersible form and transport all of you back to the Aridia surface. Save the game, then go hunting to build up Laya's strength. Laya starts out very weak but she will gain in levels and strength very quickly. Southwest of town, you will find the portal-cave to Frigidia. Laya carries the Mystery Star, which will let you enter the cave. If you don't have an Escapipe, get one in Hazatak. It's always a good idea to carry at least two of them (one for backup, in case you're going to a town that doesn't sell them in its supply shop). The dungeon structure is a bit tricky and some of the monsters can be quite troublesome. Try to grab the Ceramic Crown, Ceramic Bow, Laser Knife, and Force Staff contained in chests here. Laya carries her sister's legendary bow, but this bow will not be strong until the end of the game. Have her carry it and use the Ceramic Bow if you find it. You will emerge in the northeast part of Frigidia. You have a pretty long walk ahead of you. Use the monitor to guide you through the mountains and down to Frigidia's southern portion. Your goal is a long peninsula in this area. The town of Mystoke is here. In Mystoke, sell used items, then buy a Laconian Staff for Ryan. Don't sell his Force Staff; Ryan can wield both staffs at the same time (Laconian in his left hand, Force in his right). Also buy Wren a Cannon. You probably won't be able to afford any of the Royal/Planar protective gear, but you probably won't need it until the third generation, anyway. Speak to the women walking around the town. They are all excited at your arrival; their people have waited for centuries for one of Laya's kin to reach Mystoke, the Castle of Silence. They will urge you to hurry into the castle; if you can pass the tests in there (meaning the monsters), you'll find Laya's Pendant, and all of the doors to her palace will open to you. They also tell you to use the Pendant to hear Laya's final words, then go to Aerone, south of Divisia. Get some more medicine, and save the game. The castle will not be easy to navigate. Merely finding the entrance to the dungeon is tricky, and you'll meet powerful monsters inside. You'll find a couple of extra medicines in chests, but don't waste time looking for them now. Bring your own instead. When you emerge in the castle throne room, open the chest and you will get Laya's Pendant. Use it right away to hear Laya's final words: "Sister, it is time for you to know the truth. Though Orakio and I have fought for many years, we finally realize that we've been deceived. An evil force from times beyond legend is using us to satisfy its desire for pain and suffering. We are joining forces to fight this ancient evil. Find your way to a Layan Palace nestled amongst the mountains in the northwest part of Frigidia. Laya's Pendant will now allow you to make use of the Palaces for what they are: gateways between the worlds. Touch the blue square in the rear of the temple, and you will gate to the corresponding Palace in an adjacent world. If you found the correct palace in Frigidia, you will be transported to the southern region of Divisia. Go northwest and you will find the town of Aerone. Don't try to reach Aquatica or the worlds to the east and southeast of Aridia through the Layan Palaces. Lune's guards will stop you from entering. The people in Aerone will reveal that the moons, Dahlia and Azura, are not real moons; they're actually man-made satellites orbiting your home world of Alisa III. Follow the bottom pathway east, and board a rocket shuttle to reach Dahlia, and to see the "real" Alisa III. Work up enough money to buy Mieu two Laconian Claws and a Force Vest. If you can afford it, get a Pulse Cannon for Wren. Then go to the Technique Distribution shop and power up Laya's Gires technique to maximum. Follow the path as far as it goes. At the end of it is a hidden gateway to an underground hangar. Walk north as far as you can, and grab the Monomate in the chest. Then move west to board the space jet to Dahlia. As the jet nears Dahlia, Nial will be surprised to see what his world looks like. It's a spaceship! (Remember the minstrel in Rysel your father met?) You'll land on Dahlia; Laya will note that it's also a spaceship. Get ready to fight when you disembark from the space jet. Lune's strongest monsters guard the way to the dungeon underneath. If you need to heal, use Mieu's techniques and/or some of the medicine you have. Try not to use any of Laya's techniques yet. When you enter the dungeon, you will find chests containing a Force Crown and Force Gear. Get them, then walk a little to the west. You will see Lune nearby. Make sure the cyborgs are holding both the Ceramic Bow and the Force Crown. Laya should reequip her sister's bow. Also make sure that Nial is holding the Sub Parts. When you are ready, speak to Lune. He will warn you that you have invaded his domain, then explain how he was exiled here by Orakio, and waited in cryogenic sleep for the right time to take revenge. When Lune is finished talking, he'll summon three Murafire and three Clique monsters. They will form a line in front of Lune to help him fight you. Wren can fire directly at Lune; have everyone else concentrate on taking out the monsters. Lune can cast Tsu for 25 damage, but Laya can heal the damage right away with a single Gires technique. If Laya is strong enough, she will have enough technique points to continue healing until you defeat Lune. It takes a real stiff fight to bring Lune down but you can do it. When you defeat Lune, he will say he is surprised you do not kill him; he apparently never knew anything of the Orakian/Layan law. Suddenly, he will see Laya's Pendant and recognize Laya for who she is. Not wishing to fight her, Lune will agree to recall his armies and live in peace. Nial's quest will be finished. He has made friends with Lune, and thereby stopped the threat of Lune's monster army. Lune will thank Nial for saving Alair, and tell him he has one more tough choice to make: both Alair and Laya want to marry him. If you choose to marry LAYA, you will begin Generation III with ADAN and GWYN. If you choose to marry ALAIR, you'll begin Generation III with ARON. Aron starts out with a Laconian Helm, Laconian Sword, Laconian Armor, and Force Boots. Adan will have the same equipment, except he will have Royal Boots instead of Force Boots. Adan is a bit stronger than Aron, but do not let this influence your decision in any way. Both characters fight well. Everybody realizes to their horror that the satellite is going to explode. Ayn calls Sean before him, and says that their moon is being destroyed. He and Thea can't bear to leave their home. He orders Sean to save himself via the space jet, and journey to his grandfather's homeland, Landen. Thea says she is staying with Ayn, but she also wants Sean to go. She sends Mieu and Wren to go with him and help him reach Landen. Wren and Mieu hurry Sean to the space jet, and escape Azura just as it is vaporized by another blast. The space jet crashes in Aridia; Sean, Mieu and Wren barely escape with their lives. Mieu reminds Sean that they must try to make it to Landen. Use the monitor, and you'll see that you are not far from Hazatak. Go over there and talk to the cyborgs. You'll learn the following new info: just to the southeast of town is an amazing whirlpool; if you can find the "sub parts" for Wren, you can explore it. Both cyborgs and monsters will attack you on your way to Landen. Beware of the extremely deadly Gnashers, which are capable of dealing out automatic deathblows. If you are hit, you die automatically, regardless of how many hit points you have left at the time. In Ilan and Yaata, you'll learn some disturbing news. Some of the cyborgs are attacking Orakians, and monsters are fighting Layans. A strange power seems to be directing them; no Layan or Orakian can do it. Worse news awaits you in Landen. Nobody knows how he survived for this long, but his monster army has made periodic attacks on Landen. Go into the castle. She asks you to go to a world to the southwest, where an ancient machine can be used to find Laya's treasure. Pick up some medicine, if necessary, at the Supply Shop, and save the game at the inn. The bottom Sage will speak the word: "Nei." He will then give Mieu a special technique called Grantz. (Nei. Sound familiar?) Speak to the Sages again and they'll tell you to return to Skyhaven to get your weapons empowered. They'll also say that Orakio's twin brother turned into an evil fiend. Nial turns toward his son Adan, and asks him to learn the cause of the tremor. Nial tells Adan to take Wren and Mieu with him. Just as Adan is ready to leave, Gwyn will insist on going along as well. Talk to Nial once more before leaving the castle. He will suggest that you visit Lune on Dahlia; he might have seen the cause of the earthquake. Several of the Landen townspeople are in agreement that Lune may have seen the cause of the earthquake. But pay attention to a woman in the castle, who believes that Gwyn's dream is a premonition of great danger. If Mieu is carrying the Ceramic Bow, give it to Gwyn now. It will do more damage right now than Laya's Bow. You can sell Wren's Ceramic Gear if you took the Force Gear from the Dahlia dungeon. Since Gwyn starts out with a Force Crown, you can sell the one you took from Dahlia also. In Ilan and Yaata, you will hear some disturbing news. Cyborgs and monsters have been attacking everybody, Layan and Orakian alike. It appears as if the cyborgs and monsters are directed by someone or something; no Orakian or Layan can do it. Pick up a Force Slicer in Ilan (even though nobody can use it), and save the game in Yaata. Cross the bridge into Satera and pass through the land to reach the Layan Palace that gates you to Divisia. There will not be any more hostile encounters in the castle dungeon of Divisia-town. The people in the castle have no information of interest except that their ancestors once piloted the spaceship, but most of the knowledge has been lost since the pilots left; however, somebody named Rulakir is still around. Exit South Divisia, and go around the trees surrounding the northern end of the river. Go south and use the Layan Palaces to gate across the river. In Aerone, the people will give you a horrifying interpretation of Gwyn's dreams; they believe it is a warning that the Alisa III has been locked on a collision course with a black hole! Something is blocking the pilots from changing course; the blocking must be stopped or everyone will die. Go to the space jet and fly to Dahlia to speak to Lune. His guards saw what happened: a spaceship looking exactly like the Alisa III appeared; the two ships exchanged laser fire, and the other ship was destroyed! A laser hit the Alisa III, knocking it off course and causing the earthquake. One guard thinks the wise folk of a city called Skyhaven, in Frigidia, might know why the ships fought. The Dahlia dungeon holds parts that will allow Wren to fly; you can use them to reach the city. Talk to Lune and Alair. They will ask you to take Lune's daughter Kara with you. Kara has Lune's weapon, the Lune Slicer; Lune thinks you may need it. Talk to Kara, and take her into your group. Give her the Force Slicer you bought in Ilan; she can wield both of the slicers, one in each hand. (This Kara is different from the one who joins you when you use either of Ayn's children. She starts out weak, but rises in levels and strength very quickly. She can also use healing techniques; the other Kara cannot.) Now go into the dungeon. The dungeon structure is tricky. You must go to the left, then up, then all the way to the right, then down, and left to find your way to the middle where the Aero Parts are stored. Along the way, you'll find a Laconian Gear, Laconian Bandanna, and a Laconian Crown. You could not have gotten these while you were adventuring with Nial; the only correct path leading to these items is the pathway Lune was standing on when you fought him. Exit the dungeon with an Escapipe as soon as you get the Aero Parts. Walk back to the space jet and fly back to Aerone. Sell gear no longer needed, and save the game. Time to learn how to use Wren's Aero Parts. These do not need to be "used" or equipped; you only need to touch a nearby airstrip. Wren will transform into an aerojet that can fly quickly to anywhere on the world-dome you are in, flying over mountains, trees, and any other obstacles that would get in your way while walking. There is an airstrip right near Aerone; touch it and get the feel of flying around. To land, touch any airstrip again. If you don't have an Escapipe, land at the airstrip to the northeast of Divisia-town. Gate to Satera via the Layan Palace nearby. There will be an airstrip in Satera near the Palace; fly to Ilan and buy an Escapipe. Then return to Aerone, and go southeast on foot to the Palace that will gate you back to Frigidia. From there, a short walk southwest, and you will find an airstrip. Fly over to the island on the western edge of Frigidia. You'll find New Mota town there. Save the game, and look into the town Weapon Shop. See if you can get Mieu one Planar Claw. The Pulse Vulcan for sale can hit every enemy on screen in an encounter, but it does not do any more damage than a Laconian Shot, so overall, it's not really that strong. Lune married, and fathered a daughter whom he named Kara. They all strove to spread peace across all the worlds of the Alisa III. But one day, when Aron and Kara were grown up, the long years of peace came to a sudden end.... A guard rushes into the throne room, and urges everyone to look out of the window. As everyone does so, they see another spaceship that looks exactly like the Alisa III. Suddenly, the two ships open fire on each other! After several exchanges, the other ship is destroyed, but the Alisa III is hit, and knocked off course. Talk to Nial; he will ask you to take Mieu and Wren with you, and find out what has happened. Lune will ask you to take Kara along; not that Kara is offering you a choice. Nial and Lune are worried that more trouble may be in the works; possibly even a renewal of war. Talk to the four guards. One of them will suggest that you visit Laya, who has gone back to sleep in her palace, and ask her for help. There is no way whatsoever to avoid having two Mystery Stars, nor any way to get rid of either. Return to the Aridia surface and save the game in Hazatak. Buy an Escapipe, then gate to Aquatica. Stop by Rysel, and get Royal Boots for Aron. On the second floor of the technique distribution shop is a girl with shocking news: Laya's lands across the sea are now gone. Gate to Landen and buy a Force Slicer for Kara in Ilan. The Kara who goes with Sean and Crys is different from the Kara who goes with Adan and Aron. To differentiate, I'll refer to the Kara who goes with Sean and Crys as Kara I; the other Kara will be referred to as Kara II. At this point in the game, you should have the five weapons of legend, and received the word of power (Nei) from the Sages in Sage Isle. You are ready for the final stages of the game. Exit Sage Isle, and touch the dock so Wren transforms into an aquaskimmer. Steer back to Agoe, dock, and go into town. Sell the Royal items taken out of Sage Isle, along with Wren's Pulse Cannon and Vulcan, Mieu's Laconian Claw, and your Laconian Sword. Save the game, then hurry to Frigidia. Save the game in New Mota. Touch the airstrip and fly to the eastern part of Frigidia. Land on the airstrip you will find inside of a mountain ring shaped like a backward C. Walk out of the ring, and then east to the Layan Palace, which gates you to Terminus. Just to the northeast of where you'll emerge is another airstrip. Go over to it, but before you touch it, check your monitor. You will see that this dome-world has three lakes, connected by a stream so that the water bodies are shaped like a W. Get airborne and fly to the middle lake. You will find a floating city; touch it to land. You will be welcomed to the city of Lashute. You will not have any enemy encounters here, so you can go where you like at leisure. Look for all the people to learn a surprising story: Lashute is ruled by Rulakir, the twin brother of Orakio. Rulakir has stayed alive the past millennium by force of hatred and anger, brought about the loss of his family in the Orakio-Laya war. Be sure to map Lashute while you wander through it. If you locate the throne of Rulakir, he won't talk with you, but "waves of blackness" will "wash over you." Escapipes won't work in Lashute, so walk out and return to Frigidia. Save the game in Mystoke. Touch the airstrip just to the south of Mystoke; fly to Skyhaven. Go over to the Elder Council and talk to them one by one. The first member praises your work. The second member speaks the word of power. The other members will say to equip the Nei weapons and use them to destroy Dark Force. Their task is over; yours truly begins now. When the second Council member speaks the ancient word of power (Nei), the weapons of legend will transform into Nei weapons -- Nei Sword, Nei Claw, Nei Shot, Nei Bow, and Nei Slicer. You'll have to reequip them after they are empowered. Leave Skyhaven and return to New Mota. Laya (or Gwyn, if you're using Adan) will not need the Ceramic Bow anymore, so sell it. Use the eastern Layan Palace to gate to Terminus. Walk around and hunt the monsters there to advance a few more levels, and gain more meseta. By the time you're ready to face Dark Force, everyone in the party should have the following equipment: For your MAIN character (Sean, Crys, Adan, or Aron): Laconian Helm, Nei Sword, Planar Armor, Royal Boots. For MIEU: Laconian Ribbon, Nei Claw, Planar Claw, Royal Vest, Force Boots. For WREN: Laconian Gear, Nei Shot, Royal Protector. (Wren can't wear any kind of footgear.) For LAYA (or GWYN, if you use Adan): Royal Crown, Nei Bow, Royal Fiblira, Force Boots. For KARA (either): Royal Bandanna, Nei Slicer, Planar Slicer, Royal Robe and Force Boots. Some Royal items might seem useless, because they only raise defense power by a few points over Laconian items. But sometimes, these few points can actually make a big difference, so be sure to get the Royal/Planar armors. You should also have the Monitor, the Sapphire, the Twins Ruby, the Mystery Star, Laya's Pendant, the Sub Parts, the Aero Parts and the Aqua Parts. If you are using Sean or Crys, you will also have the Dragon Tear and Power Topaz; if you are using Adan, you'll have the Moonstone; if you are using Aron, you'll have the Moonstone and a second Mystery Star. Distribute the gems so that everybody is carrying only one. Have Wren hold the Parts. Laya (or Gwyn) should hold Laya's Pendant. Your Main character character should hold the Monitor. When you're ready to face Dark Force, get the Star Mist and Moon Dew out of Skyhaven dungeon if you haven't done so already. Give them to Wren or your Main character. Then go to the Supply Shop and buy everyone at least seven Trimates. Now go into the Technique Distribution Shop. Raise Mieu's Rever technique to maximum power. If you're not using Adan, raise Laya's Gires technique to maximum power. If you're using Adan, power up Kara II's Gires technique to maximum power; Gwyn will have the lowest technique strength in the party. Power her Res technique up to maximum strength, or else leave her technique strength distribution unchanged. (It's easiest to finish with Adan or Aron, since you will have four party members with healing techniques, your main character, Laya/Gwyn, Mieu, and Kara II. Kara I, who goes with Sean and Crys, has no healing techniques; she also will have fewer hit points than Kara II by the time you're ready to face Dark Force, and she won't hit as hard as Kara II. This is because Kara I rises in levels so much more slowly than Kara II. It's hardest to finish with Crys: he has no healing techniques, while Sean does.) When everyone is high enough in level and has their optimum equipment, plus proper supplies, save the game in New Mota and go to Lashute. Now that you are carrying the Nei weapons, Lashute will reveal its true colors. None of the people will be friendly anymore; instead, they will tell you of their nefarious plans: they wanted the war to be started up again by Siren and Lune, but Rhys was needed to return the Satellites to proper orbit, which is what Rhys did. They also succeeded in getting you, your father, and Rhys to reopen the sealed gateways among the domes of the Alisa III, so they could spread evil once more. You have done everything they wanted, and now Dark Force brings your doom. The enemies you will now encounter in Lashute are the most powerful you'll find anywhere. Beware especially of the Guardian, Defender, Punisher, and Malific. The Nei weapons will destroy them quickly, but they'll frequently get in a few blows that pack a lot of power. Remember that Escapipes will not work in Lashute. You must be very powerful to fight your way to Rulakir's throne without using too many techniques or Trimates. When you reach him, he will now let you learn that the death of his family in the Orakian-Layan war, 1000 years ago, caused his heart to turn black. He will then say that the Dark Force owns his soul, and it will now own yours as well. A line of three Murafires and three Azufires spring up before Rulakir to help him. Kara can take them out with one throw of her Slicers; if you are lucky, she'll get them all right away so that your Main character and Mieu can attack Rulakir instead of one of the monsters. Laya (or Gwyn) and Wren can aim directly at Rulakir, and they should do so. Rulakir casts a deadly Tsu technique that does 40-60 damage. Heal with a Gires technique or two if you have to; otherwise, continue your assault on Rulakir without letup. When you conquer Rulakir, he will be freed from Dark Force's grip. He will urge you to destroy Dark Force; then his heart gives out under the strain of his exorcism, and he dies. Use one Trimate for each party member so that you are healed. Then go down the stairway behind the throne. Guess what? You're in another dungeon maze! The chests near you hold a few Laconian protective gear items, which you don't really need. Navigate the correct path along the unbroken tiles to the right side of the dungeon. There are four chests on this side of the dungeon. At the top corner, you find one chest with Star Mist. At the bottom corner, you'll find two chests right next two each other. One holds a Royal Gear for Wren (equip this at once), and the other holds Moon Dew. MAKE SURE YOU ARE AT THE CORNERS OF THE DUNGEON; that can't be emphasized enough! You'll find out why when you reach the chest between the Star Mist and the Moon Dew. Before you open this last chest, heal everyone in the party up to full hit points with Gires techniques or with Trimate. Redistribute your items so that Wren and your main character are holding the Star Mist and Moon Dew. If you're using Sean or Crys, and you were able to use the trick with Ayn (mentioned in his quest) to get two Star Mist before the annihilation of Cille and Shusoran, you'll have four Star Mist and two Moon Dew. If you're using Adan or Aron, you will not have been able to use this trick, and so you will only have two Star Mist; the one taken from Skyhaven and the one taken from the top right chest here in the Lashute dungeon. Open the last chest. Everything turns pitch black for a moment; then a dark fog will cover the ground. Rising out of the fog is a hump with a number of evil heads. The voice of Dark Force will give you a whole song-and-dance about how it is going to waste you. As it speaks, the hump will sink into the fog. When Dark Force tires of its boasting, it will rise from the fog, taking the shape of a giant, hideous creature, with evil heads sprouting from its loins, knees, and shoulders, and the hump, which is its back. Mieu and your main character cannot attack Dark Force's body until its left hand is disabled. Dark Force's right hand, left hand, and body are treated as three independently functioning entities. So what powers does Dark Force have? The body is the most dangerous, which is to be expected. It has the highest hit points (around 8000!!), does the most damage, and can cast a murderous Tsu technique for 50-70 damage. The right hand can attack for about 30 or so, or cast a Foi technique for about 40 to 50 damage. But the left hand is the one to watch. Its rare attacks do little damage but it can heal itself, plus the right hand and body, with a Gires technique that can restore up to 200 hit points to each. So it's a good idea to focus all attacks on the left hand until it is disabled; you will hear a sharp, telltale crackling noise when you disable the left hand. This prevents Dark Force from healing itself anymore. The left hand will be disabled after taking about 300-350 hit points; the right hand can take 1200 before it's disabled. Dark Force can therefore take a whopping grand total of close to 10,000 hit points! When the left hand is taken out, you can attack the body. You do not need to attack the right hand at all, but its attacks can become annoying, so you may want to consider dividing up your attacks between the right hand and the body. I like to do it this way: MAIN CHARACTER (Sean, Crys, Adan, or Aron): attack right hand. MIEU: attack right hand with Nei Claw; body with Planar Claw. WREN: attack right hand. LAYA (or GWYN if you're using Adan): attack the body. KARA (either): attack body with Nei Slicer; right hand with Planar Slicer. (TECH NOTE: remember, when any party member wields two weapons, one weapon in each hand, the _left_ hand always strikes first!) You will have to heal frequently. Use healing methods carefully. Sometimes, only one or two people need healing; this can be done with Trimate. If at least three party members need to be healed, make use of one or two Gires techniques. Don't hesitate to have two party members simultaneously cast a Gires; your lives may depend on it. If everybody in the party is reduced to half their maximum hit points or less, use a Star Mist. Remember that you will only have two of them (four if you use Sean or Crys). If you're using Crys, only Laya will be able to heal you with a high-power Gires technique; you will need Mieu's Rever technique raised to its maximum power to revive anyone disabled, and this has the side effect of reducing her Gires to near-zero effect. If you have to, use Laya's Gires technique several rounds in succession. Don't use the "continuous mode" icon when fighting Dark Force. You have to constantly monitor everyone's current hit points to see if any healing must be used. Laya (if you are not using Adan) and Kara II should cast most of the Gires techniques you have to use, since they usually do not hit as hard as Mieu, Wren or your main character. When the body is reduced to zero hit points, Dark Force will be defeated, even if the right hand still has hit points remaining. The manifestation will sink into the fog and dissipate. When Dark Force is defeated, it will give a few parting comments to you, which vary depending on the character you're using. However, one thing Dark Force will say to everyone is a vow to return again in 1000 years to pick up where he left off (a PHANTASY STAR IV game...yay!) The following sequence then proceeds automatically (for all characters): When Dark Force disappears, your main character will fly into a rage, and scream that he cannot let so evil a city remain standing. His anger will trigger the Megido technique. Megido will begin tearing Lashute apart, and Wren will shout that the party cannot hope to get out in time. Mieu comes to the rescue, reflexively using the Grantz technique which teleports the party to a place of safety far from the falling city. Lashute will scream a hideous cry as it explodes, falls from the sky, and sinks in the lake. The four ending sequences were rather disappointing, unfortunately. The two endings for Adan and Crys are exactly the same, except that with Crys, you barely avoid going into the sun, and with Adan, you barely avoid entering a black hole. Either way, you get the exact same message of gratitude from Aerone, as you approach a planet that orbits a nearby star: "the third one out from the star." Three guesses which planet this is. The ending for Aron is a bit better: you go into the black hole, emerging in the past. But once again, you end up near Earth. Only the ending with Sean is really different. The starship Neo Palm will arrive, having been attracted by the explosion of Azura. They know Dark Force will arise again in 1000 years, and are committed to helping get rid of it for good next time. After you finish the game with one of the third-generation main characters, you will find it significantly easier to play the other three characters; their goals, although different, are accomplished through virtually the exact same sequence of actions.
